At least 32 international electronics companies, including Hewlett Packard (HP) and Dell, have applied for the country’s incentive program to manufacture laptops, tablets and servers in India. Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said this on Wednesday. The central government is continuously emphasizing on promoting domestic manufacturing capacity under its ‘Make in India’ initiative. Many global companies have either set up their own units or formed joint ventures with Indian companies.
Companies applied under PLI program
Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said electronics companies have applied for information technology hardware under the $2 billion Production Linked Incentive (PLI) program announced in May. Recently, the central government issued a notification banning imported laptops, tablets and personal computers with immediate effect.
