In schools from the academic session 2023-24, fifth and eighth standard students will not be promoted if they fail the annual examination. This rule will also apply to Economically Backward Class (EWS) students studying in private schools. In this regard, the private school branch of the directorate of education has issued a circular. According to the circular, there will be a regular examination of fifth and eighth standard students in the academic session. If the student fails, he/she will have an opportunity to appear in the exam again in two months. If he does not pass in that too, the student will be placed in the required revision category. The student will study in the same class in the next semester. All private schools have been instructed to inform parents about this.
Formation of committee for EWS students
If the parents of economically backward/disadvantaged classes and children with special needs have any complaint regarding the examination, they can approach the concerned district for the same. A grievance committee was also formed in this regard. It will have a Regional Deputy Director of Education as Chairman and three members. The committee will redress the grievances of the parents.
If the committee finds during the investigation that the student has been deliberately failed, the school will be notified. Apart from this, the student will also be given an opportunity to re-appear/retake the exam. If students still fail, they will be placed in the required revision category. In such a situation, the Deputy Director of Education of the concerned district will ensure admission of such children to government schools under the Right to Education Act.
