MSK Prasad, the former chief selector of Team India, who prepared the Indian team for the World Cup 2019, has announced his squad for the World Cup 2023 to be held in India this year. In this squad of 15 players, he has surprised everyone by selecting veteran spinner R Ashwin. Ashwin has not been a part of Indian ODI team plans for quite some time now. He played his last ODI in January 2022 on the tour of South Africa. But due to the World Cup 2023 to be held in India, MSK Prasad has decided to include Ashwin in his team. MSK Prasad has named Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma as openers in the 15-man Indian World Cup squad. In this team, Ishan Kishan will be the backup to KL Rahul in terms of wicket keeper, while he will also play the role of backup opening batsman. Besides Rohit-Gill, Kohli will be in the top-3. Also players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav will strengthen the middle order.
The team selected by MSK Prasad has three all-rounders including Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Akshar Patel. Also, he has said that apart from Ashwin, one of Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal can make his place in this team.
His team will have a total of 4 spinners including Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel, R Ashwin along with Kuldeep K Chahal. According to Indian conditions 4 spinners can be kept in the team.
