State-owned Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has bagged a major order. The company has received this order from the central government. The contract involves the purchase of 5 fleet support ships for the Indian Navy from Hindustan Shipyard. The total value of the order is Rs 19,000 crore. An agreement has been signed with Hindustan Shipyard regarding this order on Friday.

These ships will play an important role in the naval fleet
The Cabinet Committee on Security approved the purchase of these ships in a meeting held on 16 August 2023. It will be the first such ship to be built in the country. These ships will play an important role in enhancing the strategic reach and mobility of the Indian Navy’s fleet. The primary function of these fleet support ships is to provide continuous supply to naval vessels at sea. Also, it has to be ensured that naval ships have sufficient fuel, water, ammunition and stores.
