Afghanistan’s star spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman stole the show not with the ball but with the bat in the third ODI against Pakistan on Saturday. Taking the Pakistani bowlers on remand, Mujib played a blistering innings of 67 runs in which he hit 5 fours and as many sixes. Mujeeb’s strike rate during this innings was 172.97. Mujeeb ur Rehman also created history for Afghanistan based on his stormy innings. Yes, he has now become the fastest batsman to score a half-century for his team in ODI cricket. He scored a fifty off just 26 balls in the third ODI against Pakistan. However, he could not win his team and was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi.
The record for the fastest half-century in ODI cricket for Afghanistan was held by fellow spinner Rashid Khan before Mujeeb ur Rahman. Rashid scored a 27-ball fifty against Ireland in 2021. Apart from this, Mohammad Nabi (28), Shafiqullah Shinwari (28) and Najibullah Zadran (29) are the three players who have scored half-centuries in less than 30 balls in ODI cricket for Afghanistan.
Talking about the match, Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first in this match played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the help of Pakistani captain and Mohammad Rizawan’s half-century, the Pakistan team could score 268 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Chasing this score, the Afghanistan team was bowled out for 209 runs in 48.4 overs. After the top order failed miserably, Mujeeb ur Rahman got a chance to bat in the 33rd over when Afghanistan lost their 7th wicket to Rashid Khan for 97.

Mujeeb took the Pakistani bowlers on remand as soon as he came and batted openly and played an explosive innings of 67 runs. Based on his innings, the Afghanistan team was able to cross the 200-run mark. Apart from Mujeeb, none of the Afghan players failed to cross the 40-run mark.
