Divya Kumar Khosla, Meezan Jaffrey and Pearl V Puri starrer ‘Yaariyaan 2’ has been mired in controversy even before its release. Controversy has arisen over one of its scenes and the makers have been accused of hurting religious sentiments. The film is slated to hit the big screens on 20 October 2023. Actor Meezan Jafri is seen wearing a kirpan in the film’s song ‘Saure Ghar’. Its teaser has also been released 2 weeks ago, in which the actor was also seen wearing a kirpan. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Samiti (SGPC) has strongly objected to the film’s song and teaser. The SGPC says the actor wears a saber in the film while his hair is cropped. The actor has worn a saber in a very objectionable manner which is not acceptable.

Censor Board demand
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami has requested the Union Ministry of Broadcasting and the Government of India not to allow the Censor Board of Film Certification to release this objectionable video or any objectionable scene from the film. If the visuals of the video are not removed, legal action will be taken for hurting the religious sentiments of the minority Sikh community. The song was also asked to be removed from YouTube. He says T-Series should remove it with immediate effect.

People of the Sikh community opened a front on social media
The Sikh community is demanding its ban by posting a video of the film’s song on social media. Harjinder Singh Kukreja tweeted, ‘Extremely disappointed and worried about the misrepresentation of Kirpan in the new song Saure Aur from the Hindi film Yaariyan 2. For Sikhs, the kirpan is neither a fashion item nor a storytelling tool. It symbolizes the faith attained only after initiation into the Khalsa sect. The scenes showing the actor wearing a kirpan and promoting alcohol are heart-wrenching, which is against the basic tenets of Sikhism. Realize the seriousness of this issue and consider removing these insensitive scenes from the film.
