Co-hosts Sri Lanka’s preparations for the Asia Cup 2023 suffered another blow when fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka on Monday joined the squad’s list of injured bowlers that includes Lahiru Kumara, Dushmanta Chamira and Wanindu Hasaranga. The Asia Cup will begin on August 30, with four matches to be played in Pakistan and nine in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Cricket’s medical committee chairman Arjun de Silva told ESPNcricinfo that Madushanka suffered the injury during Friday’s warm-up match and may not regain fitness ahead of the World Cup. According to reports, Chamira will also miss the Asia Cup due to injury and his participation in the early part of the World Cup also looks doubtful.

Leg-spinner Hasaranga is also recovering from a thigh injury and may miss part of the Asia Cup, according to reports. The trio of Kumara, Chamira and Madushanka were key to the team’s World Cup qualifier success in June and July.

In his absence, Sri Lanka may have to rely on Kasun Rajitha, Pramod Madushan and Mathisha Pathirana while they have options in Dunith Velalage and Dushan Hemantha to replace Hasaranga. Sri Lanka will open their Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh on Thursday.
