Kiev Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out its biggest ever drone attack. At the same time, Ukrainian officials said two people were killed in a Russian attack on Kiev early Wednesday morning. A fire broke out at an airport in Russia’s western region of Pskov, on the border of Estonia and Latvia, following a drone attack, according to the governor and local media reports. The Russian Defense Ministry said several more drones were shot down in Oryol, Bryansk, Ryazan, Kaluga and the area around the capital Moscow.
The regional governor of Pskov, Mikhail Vedernikov, ordered the cancellation of all flights from the provincial capital’s airport on Wednesday so that damage could be assessed during the day. Quoting officials of the emergency service, the official Russian news agency ‘Tass’ has written that, ‘The information about the attack on the airport was first received a few minutes before midnight. Four IL-76 transport aircraft were damaged in the attack.
Smoke and a huge fire are visible over the city of Pskov
Some video footage and pictures posted on social media showed smoke billowing over the city of Pskov and a raging fire. Regional governor Vedernikov said there were no casualties and the fire had been brought under control. According to unconfirmed media reports, the airport was attacked by 10 to 20 drones.
Russia launched a major attack on Kiev
“A major attack by Russia using drones and missiles on the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, killed two people and wounded another,” Ukraine’s military administration chief Sergei Popko wrote on Telegram. Popko said this is the biggest attack since spring. He said Russia launched martyr drones at Kiev from different directions and then targeted the city with missiles by Tu-95 MS strategic aircraft.
Over 20 drones shot down
Sergei Popko said that more than 20 targets (drones/missiles) were shot down by Ukraine’s air defense system. However, it is not clear how many drones/missiles were launched. Popko said there were casualties when debris fell on a commercial building in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
