Asia Cup 2023: Skip Babar-Rizwan, Pakistani ‘uncle’ India’s biggest threat

New Delhi. The 16th season of Asia Cup has started. In the very first match of the prestigious tournament, the Pakistani team was seen in great colours. Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed scored centuries in the first match against Nepal in Multan on August 30. While bowling, along with the pace trio, the spinners were also seen in special colours. The situation was that the Nepal cricket team chasing a big target was bowled out for just 104 runs by the Pakistani bowlers. Thus, the green team won by 238 runs in the very first match.

Iftikhar Ahmed looked devastating in Multan:

Pakistan captain Babar Azam certainly scored the highest century of 151 runs during the match, but Iftikhar Ahmed, who scored a century batting at number six, has also received less praise.

The 28-year-old Azam faced a total of 131 balls batting at number three during his brilliant innings. Meanwhile his strike was 115.27. Ahmed played an innings of 109 runs off 71 balls while batting at number six.

During this time, 11 fours and four brilliant sixes came out of his bat. His strike rate during the match was 153.52. When Ahmed was batting in the field it looked as if he was playing T20 cricket and not ODIs.

Pakistan’s next match is against the Indian team. Not only Team India but all cricketing teams are always wary of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, but seeing Ahmed’s brilliant innings against Nepal, the Blue team is now forced to strategize about them as well. The reason is obvious, Ahmed is a player who has the ability to single-handedly take a match to his camp if he stays at the crease for a while.

Meanwhile, he has scored 402 runs from his bat in 14 innings at an average of 50.25. Ahmed has a century and a half-century to his name in the ODI format.

Talking about his bowling performance, he has achieved eight successes in 11 innings of 15 matches at an average of 44.75. Iftikhar Ahmed’s best bowling performance in the ODI format is five wickets for 40 runs.
