The government on Thursday appointed Jaya Verma Sinha as the first woman CEO and Chairman of the Railway Board. He will replace Anil Kumar Lahoti. The Railway Board is the apex decision making body for the national transporter. Jaya Verma, in her capacity as Railway Board Member (Operations and Business Development), recently briefed the media about the complex signaling system after the horrific train accident in Balasore, Odisha. About 300 people died in this accident.

Tenure till August 31, 2024
He will assume charge on or after September 1 and his tenure will last till August 31, 2024. Sinha is set to retire on October 1, but will be extended again after his tenure is over.
He also worked as a Railway Adviser at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years. Maitri Express running from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated during his tenure in Bangladesh.
