Washington DC: Republican Party’s Indian-American presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He emphasized India’s role in containing China in the Indo-Pacific region. He also said that America has become a little less trustworthy than it needs to be and he wants to promote this as president. Ramaswamy was speaking on the PBD podcast on the ‘Value Entertainment’ platform, where he was asked if he has any connection with PM Modi.
Speaking in a podcast, Vivek Ramaswamy said, ‘I don’t know him personally yet, nor have I met him. But when they came for their joint session (in the US Congress), I stayed there one morning before that. A person present there invited me as his guest and so I stayed there. I listened to his (PM Modi’s) address. I am impressed with him as a leader. Vivek Ramaswamy further said that having India as a reliable partner for the US will force China and Xi Jinping to strike a balance. He said that saving Taiwan from war would be the most important foreign policy issue of the next US president.
Ramaswamy called India important to stop China
Republican leader Ramaswamy said, ‘If you want to think about the conflict situation with Taiwan, people forget that the Indian Ocean is where the Middle East’s oil supplies go to China, and so if India is really going to be a reliable partner, that’s another obstacle. For Xi Jinping. And I think I probably have the clearest vision than any of the other candidates in this race (the US presidential race) from both parties (Democratic and Republican) on how to stop China from going after Taiwan and how to do that. There must be war. Avoided on the island. He continued, ‘And I think this will be the most important thing that the next president will do from a foreign policy standpoint.’
The Republican leader said that if he becomes president, he will leave behind the idea that America is the moral arbiter of everything that happens in the world. Vivek Ramaswamy said that my focus will be on advancing the interests of the American motherland. He said, ‘I’m going to give up the lie that I think we hear sometimes in America, that we’re somehow moral arbiters of what goes on in the world. What I’m trying to say is true, my job as the American President is really to advance the interests of the homeland to take care of American citizens. I have a moral responsibility towards my fellow citizens to take care of them.
The US presidential election is going to be held on November 5 next year
It is to be mentioned that Ramaswamy had termed US support to Ukraine as disastrous in the ongoing conflict with Russia. He advocated ending the war on the condition that Moscow retain parts of the Donbass region and that Kyiv not join NATO. He pointed to the argument that ending the conflict would require Russian President Vladimir Putin to withdraw from his military alliance with China, which would leave Beijing in a weak position to attack Taiwan.
According to The Hill, both candidates are far behind former President Donald Trump, who leads with 56 percent. In another RealClearPolitics survey, Trump leads the 2024 GOP race with 53.6 percent support, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with 13.5 percent and Ramaswamy with 7.3 percent, the New York Post reports. The next US presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5, 2024.
