Cricket fans around the world were disappointed when the Asia Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan was washed out on Saturday (September 2). After winning the toss at Sri Lanka’s Kandy ground, the Indian team was bundled out for 266 in 48.5 overs but Pakistan’s innings could not start due to continuous rain. Rain also interrupted the Indian innings several times. Veteran opener Virender Sehwag has hit out at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) over the cancellation of the high-voltage match between India and Pakistan.
Sehwag wrote on social media platform X (Twitter), “In times of rain, we keep Chai Pakoda Yaar, Asia Cup Bhi Rakh Diya.” Play your old tunes. Seti said on X, “This is disappointing! The biggest cricket match was lost due to rain. A prediction was made regarding this. As the PCB Chairman, I requested the ACC to play in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but flimsy excuses were made to include Sri Lanka. He said, ‘Dubai is very hot. But it was as hot as the last time the Asia Cup was played in September 2022 or when the IPL was played there in April 2014 and September 2020. Politics on Sports. Unforgivable!
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan is the host of Asia Cup 2023. The hybrid model was accepted by the ACC after the BCCI refused to send Team India to Pakistan for the tournament. Sri Lanka has been co-hosted after adopting a hybrid model. While four matches will be played in Pakistan, nine matches including the final will be played in Sri Lanka. The Indian team played all its matches on Sri Lankan soil. India’s next match is against Nepal on Monday. However, there is a shadow of rain over this match of India as well.
