New Delhi. The fifth match of Asia Cup 2023 will be played today i.e. Monday between the cricket teams of India and Nepal (Ind vs NEP). Team India will be eyeing an entry in the Super Four, while Nepal will try to avoid another consecutive defeat. The match will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka from 3:00 PM IST. The two teams are facing each other for the first time in ODI cricket. Amidst all this, former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath will register a big achievement in his name through this match.

This will be former right-arm fast bowler Srinath’s 250th ODI match as an ICC match referee. He is the Indian to achieve this feat while becoming the fourth ICC match referee overall. Previously, Ranjan Madugale, Chris Broad and Jeff Crowe have achieved this position.

‘I will try to give my best in the coming years’
Srinath said, ‘It is a great feeling to reach this stage as a match referee. I’ve been doing this for 17 years and it’s unbelievable that I’ve officiated more ODIs than I’ve ever played. I’m lucky to still be involved with the game. I started my international career as a match referee in a Test match between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo in 2006 and since then I have had a wonderful time. I will try to do my best in the coming years.

Srinath became an ICC match referee in 2006 and has since officiated in ICC Cricket World Cup 2007, ICC Champions Trophy (2009 and 2013) and ICC T20 World Cup (2012, 2014, 2016 and 2021). Apart from this, he has also refereed in 65 Tests, 118 Men’s T20 Internationals and 16 Women’s T20 Internationals. Srinath has taken 236 wickets in 67 Tests and 315 wickets in 219 ODIs for India.
