Tragedy in Colombo, Sri Lanka! The venue of the Asia Cup Super-4 match has been changed

New Delhi. India’s first match of the first leg of the Asia Cup 2023 was marred by rain. The Indian team could not bowl against Pakistan and were forced to share 1-1 points after the match was abandoned. In the second match against Nepal also the match had to be stopped several times due to rain. The Super 4 matches of the Asia Cup are scheduled to be held in Colombo where flood-like conditions have occurred. In such a situation, it has been decided to shift all these matches to other venues, which will be announced soon.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is considering relocating the matches of the ‘Super Four’ phase of the Asia Cup in view of the heavy rains in Colombo. The five matches of the ‘Super Four’ phase and the final are scheduled to be played in Colombo from September 9, but there seems little chance of respite from the rain.

With rain forecast in Colombo, the ACC is discussing a possible change of venue with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and tournament host Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). According to information received by News18, Pallakal, Dambulla and Hambantota were discussed. It is known that a consensus has been reached regarding Hambantota. The six teams participating in the tournament have also been informed about the possible change of venue.

Best weather of Hambantota

Pallakkale is currently hosting Asia Cup League matches, but chances of rain are high even in this hill town. Dambulla is about 70 kilometers from Pallekele and the chance of rain in this city is less. An SLC official said the Rangiri International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla would not be ready to host so many matches in such a short time. Hambantota currently has the best weather in Sri Lanka and is assessing the readiness of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium to host ACC Asia Cup matches.
