Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar may not be taking their stand on the role of KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. But many former cricketers want to see left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan in the upcoming matches. Former India opener Gautam Gambhir even said that it would be a big mistake if KL Rahul is chosen instead of Ishan Kishan in the playing eleven. After Rishabh Pant’s injury and even before, KL Rahul played in a few matches as a wicketkeeper in the team and was seen batting at number five. However, after Rahul’s injury, Ishan Kishan took over as the wicket-keeper batsman and managed to capitalize on the opportunity.
Ishan Kishan played mostly as an opener this year. However, he further cemented his position in the Asia Cup when he stepped in to bat at number five. He played a brilliant innings of 82 runs against Pakistan. He also managed to make a place in the ODI World Cup squad based on consistent performances. “It will be a big mistake if India don’t play Ishan Kishan before KL Rahul,” Gautam Gambhir said on a Star Sports show.
Former cricketer Akash Chopra said that Ishan Kishan always performs well under pressure. His place in the Indian team has never been secure but he has always scored runs when he got the chance. Akash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “Ishaan Kishan doesn’t get much chance. But every time they meet, they are under pressure. He has scored a double century and even then he doesn’t get many chances. Which is a fact, because after scoring a double century, he didn’t get a chance in the next series. Where Ishan will bat in the team is a different matter. It depends on different circumstances but he has understood the pulse of the ODI format.
