PM Modi meets his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jagannath, discusses infrastructure and fintech

India and Mauritius are celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2023.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s commitment to amplifying the voice of the Global South in a bilateral meeting with his Mauritian counterpart in Delhi on Friday. Jagannath arrived here on Thursday to attend the G-20 summit and was given a warm welcome at the New Delhi airport.

PM Modi wrote in a post on X, “PM Jagannath and I had a great meeting. This is a special year for India-Mauritius relations as we complete 75 years of diplomatic relations between our nations. We discussed cooperation in fintech, culture Curry. and other fields. It also reiterated India’s commitment to amplify the voices of the Global South.”

Earlier today, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met the Prime Minister of Mauritius and the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further the ‘Truly Special Partnership’ between India and Mauritius.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius highlighted India’s support in all sectors of the Mauritian economy and said that New Delhi is the first country to sign an agreement with Port Louis.

On Mauritius-India trade relations, Prime Minister Jugnath said, ‘India has signed the first agreement with Mauritius, the first country in Africa. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) is another proof of India’s consideration for Mauritius. This is now opening up new avenues of trade between the two countries… it is beneficial for both the countries…’

Meanwhile, India and Mauritius celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2023. Jagannath said, ‘I think this is a milestone in itself, which should be celebrated and a testament to how this relationship has strengthened over the years to where we are today. We got to the point where I could say this was the relationship. Never reached such a height before.
