Before the Asia Cup, the Pakistan team is playing a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The team has won the first two matches and captured the series. However, the team’s opener Fakhar Zaman could not perform as expected. Meanwhile, former India opener Akash Chopra believes that Fakhar Zaman’s poor batting average in Asia could be a cause for concern for Pakistan, who could become a weak link in Pakistan’s top order in the upcoming ODI World Cup. The 2023 ODI World Cup will be played in India from October 5 to November 19.
Significantly, Pakistan could not enter the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup due to a poor run rate. But this time the team will want to do better. Akash Chopra, in a video shared on his YouTube channel, talked about the top order of some strong teams, but doubts about Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman.
Akash Chopra said, “Fakhar Zaman – 3000 runs at an average of 48 in 72 matches. Three of his 10 centuries have come in Asia. Their average has fallen in Asia. He averages 38.9 and this suggests that the spinners can trouble him. He has lost many wickets against spinners. Therefore, Fakhar Jamaat can be a weak link.
He continued, “Imam-ul-Haq – 2871 runs at an average of 52 in 61 matches. His average in the Asia Cup is 56. Three of the nine centuries have come from Asia. Imam ul Haq is a good player. After him comes Babar Azam. He is brilliant in this format. Over 5000 runs in 102 matches. In Asia its average is 64 and 58.4.
