‘Akeeli’…Nusrat Bharucha’s film is going to release in theaters on 25th August. Based on the ongoing civil war in Iraq in 2014, the film has many twists and turns. There is also a Pakistan connection. Along with the love story there is also suspense. But, this is a women centric film. There is no famous lead actor in it. Yes, there are definitely two Israeli actors in the lead. But, there is no known male actor. So read our review before watching the movie.

The story of the film is like this
The film begins with the sound of shouting. There is a dark shadow on the screen. Then there is a glimpse of Jyoti Arora (Nushrat Bharucha), who is in a panic due to an ISIS attack. After this, the story goes into flashbacks and shows the journey of a girl from a small town in Punjab, India until she reaches Iraq. The flame is greeted by bomb blasts in Iraq. While working in Iraq, she falls in love with a Pakistani boy who works in her factory. Now the love story of both starts when some people of ISIS attack the factory. They kill all the men in a line and take all the women prisoner. Not only this, they also try to coerce them. But, when an attempt is made to coerce Jyoti, an ISIS agent is killed by her. What will ISIS do to avenge the death of their man? How will Jyoti escape the clutches of ISIS? You have to watch the movie to know this. But, before that, definitely read the movie review.

How is Nusrat Bharucha’s acting?
Nusrat Bharucha has done a good job. He brought life to the film with his performance. Neither overacting nor underperforming. Showed his emotions in the right amount and won the hearts of people. And the director of the film Pranay Meshram has also done a good job in his debut film. He didn’t let the story get boring. Tried to spice up the story by adding new twists every now and then. Played well with the camera at many places and tried to show the reality of Iraq through dialogue rather than scenes, due to which the story never seems to deviate from the track.

This made ‘Akeeli’ a mature thriller drama
Often in films, the hero is written to fight 100 people at once to present himself as a hero. But, no such revolution is shown in this story. It just shows the story of a girl who tries everything possible to escape from the clutches of ISIS. Dealing with everything like a normal person. That is why it can be called a mature thriller drama.

Lost here
The first half of the film is less dramatic. While the second half is full of twists and turns. Three things struck me the most while watching the film. First- the film takes two flashbacks to tell the story of Jyoti. Acting of another Pilu student. Pilu Vidyarthi has played the role of Nusrat’s mother in the film. She has become a Punjabi mother whose son and daughter-in-law have died in Kedarnath and their bodies have not been found. But, throughout the film, the grief of losing the son-daughter-in-law was nowhere visible on his face. Not only this, she also failed to catch the Punjabi accent. The third thing was that the film uses a lot of Iraqi language, due to which one has to take the attention away from the story and read the captions.

See or not?
If you like Nusrat Bharucha or his acting then you must watch this movie. If you are fond of women driven films and love suspense thriller films then you must watch ‘Alone’. But, if you like to watch drama movies like Akshay Kumar’s ‘Airlift’ based on the Iraq War, then this movie is not for you.
