The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has made up its mind not to make any changes to the Asia Cup 2023 schedule for now. There were reports recently that the Super-4 stage matches and finals may be shifted from Colombo to Hambantota due to rains in Sri Lanka. Asia Cup 2023 is being hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka under a hybrid model. The Super-4 phase is going to start from Wednesday, in which a total of six matches will be played. The first match will be played in Lahore. Along with this, five other Super-4 matches and the final are to be held in Colombo.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the organizers are exploring the possibilities of holding the match in Colombo. Weather conditions hastily improved, following which the ACC decided not to act hastily. The Secretary of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) Jai Shah is the Chairman of the SCC. India played two matches in Kandy in the opening phase which was affected by rain. India’s match against Pakistan (September 2) was washed out due to rain. The Indian team was bundled out for 266 runs while Pakistan’s innings could not even start.

When India took on Nepal on Monday (September 4), rain wreaked havoc with it several times. Nepal team were bowled out for 230 runs and India won by 10 wickets. India got a target of 145 runs in 23 overs. Rohit Sharma Ne 74 and Shubman Gill played an innings of 67 runs. India will now face Pakistan again in the Super-4 on September 10. There is also a proposal to have a ‘reserve day’ for this match. India’s other Super-4 matches will be held on September 12 and 15.

Notably, Hambantota is an arid region that has experienced drought in recent weeks. The Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota is not part of the Asia Cup opening schedule. The last ODI was played here in August when Afghanistan hosted Pakistan in the second match of the three-match series.
