In the 5th match of Asia Cup 2023, India registered a big win over Nepal by 10 wickets with the help of DLS on Monday. With this win, Team India has also got the Super-4 ticket. However, captain Rohit Sharma did not look very happy with this win. Nepal scored 230 runs batting first in this match. When Team India came out to bat, rain interrupted it. When the match resumed after rain, India got a target of 145 runs in 23 overs. Team India achieved this score without losing any wicket with the help of unbeaten half-centuries from captain Rohit Sharma (74) and Shubman Gill (67). Rohit Sharma hit 6 fours and 5 sky high sixes in his innings. The Indian captain was awarded the Player of the Match for his explosive innings.
After the match when Rohit Sharma was asked if he was happy with his innings? In response he said, “Not really, there was a bit of nervousness in the beginning but once my eyes settled, I led the team to victory.”
During the match he hit a six that surprised everyone. The hitman took the ball going outside the off stump and crossed the boundary with a flick sweep shot. Regarding his flick sweep shot, he said, ‘It wasn’t a deliberate shot, I wanted to hit a short fine over ball but the bats are so good these days.’
On the preparations for the World Cup, the captain said, ‘When we came here we knew what our World Cup team would be like, the Asia Cup will not give us a better picture because it was just two matches. But fortunately we got a chance to bat and bowl in the first match, which made it a perfect game for us. There is still a lot of work to be done. Many players are coming back from injury and need time to get back in shape.
On the performance of the players, Rohit said, ‘Hardik and Ishan did very well in the last match to take us to that score. Bowling was good today but fielding was bad, we need to improve it.
