The moment everyone has been waiting for is almost here. Counting hours are now left for Asia Cup 2023 to begin. The hosts Pakistan will face Nepal in the opening match of the tournament. One team is the number one ODI team in the ICC rankings while the other will be playing on such a big stage for the first time. Nepal’s team may be weak, but this team has the strength to go forward based on the young players.
The first match of Asia Cup 2023 will be played between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. At the same time, on 31 August, the second match will be played in Sri Lanka, between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The tournament is being played on a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting four matches while Sri Lanka will host a total of nine matches, including the final. This tournament will be played under the hosting of Pakistan Cricket Board.
Nepal, led by Rohit Pudel, know they have nothing to lose, while Pakistan will be under double pressure as they will be playing on home soil and the team will also have to watch out for an upset. On paper, there is no contest between Pakistan and Nepal, as one has an army of number one batsmen to beat the turbulent fast bowlers, while the other has young players.
The Nepalese team has reached Pakistan and has finalized its preparations. However, it remains to be seen when the two teams will face each other on the field. Nepal team may lose against Pakistan but if Pakistan has to work hard to win it will be a big mental win for Nepal. After this, Nepal’s match against India is scheduled to be played at Pallekele Stadium in Sri Lanka on September 4.
