Indian team captain Rohit Sharma is known for his cheeky style. He often spoils the meeting with his answers. Something similar was seen on Monday when he attended a press conference after announcing India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar was also present at the press conference along with Rohit. Both gave honest answers to many questions. At the same time, Rohit made a cheeky statement regarding Team India’s batting order, which is being talked about a lot. He said that we don’t go crazy in the name of flexibility in the batting order.
Rohit, popularly known as ‘Hitman’, said that there should be flexibility in the batting order but that does not mean that Hardik will open with Pandya. Rohit said, “When I talk about this (flexibility in batting order) it does not mean that we will open Hardik and send the opener at number seven. We don’t do this crazy thing. Players who fall at 4, 5 and 6 should be flexible. If you look at the last 4-5 years, the opener and number 3 have been consistent. KL Rahul Fixed at number 5. Others have to be flexible. We all had to do this early in our careers. We need this flexibility. Not to cause destruction.
Significantly, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who were ruled out due to injury, have returned to the Indian team. Tilak Verma, who left his mark on the West Indies tour, has been included in the Asia Cup squad. He got a chance in the ODI team for the first time. Wicket keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been retained as Rahul’s backup.
