New Delhi. Even before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, there was an uproar. The responsibility of organizing the tournament was given to the Pakistan Cricket Board by the Asian Cricket Council. In such a situation, the tournament was to be played in Pakistan, but BCCI created a problem. He refused to send the team to Pakistan. After a long dispute, it was finally decided that it would be organized in two countries and India would not even have to go to Pakistan to play the match. The current season of the tournament has 13 matches to be played. Now only 7 matches have been played and 2 are between PCB to ACC due to major disputes. That means 3 controversies have been seen in Asia Cup so far. Only India and Pakistan have benefited from this. Let us tell you the complete details regarding the dispute.
PCB and BCCI have been at loggerheads over the Asia Cup venue for a long time. In the end, both boards were able to get their point across. Out of 13 matches of the tournament, 4 matches are to be held in Pakistan and 9 matches are to be held in Sri Lanka. 4 matches have been played in Pakistan. Now the remaining 6 matches of the tournament are to be held in Sri Lanka. Asia Cup is being played since 1984 i.e. for 39 years. This is the first time that the tournament is being held in two countries.
Day reserved for Indo-Pak matches only
India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have confirmed their place in the Super-4. In the first match of Super-4, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh. The remaining 5 matches are to be held in Colombo. But rain is likely for next 10 days. In such a case all matches may be affected by this. In such a situation, organizers PCB and ACC have kept September 10 as a reserve day for the match between India and Pakistan. That is, if the match is not completed on September 10, it will also be played on September 11. Other teams have strongly objected to the decision to make special rules for only two teams. This is another big controversy of the tournament.
We were not even asked
Sri Lanka coach Chris Silverwood and Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurasingha have raised questions about the reserve-day. Hathurasingha said that this decision was not taken with everyone’s consent. This is not correct. We also need an extra day. I was surprised when I heard what Silverwood said. This can cause trouble for us. On the other hand, unlike the coach, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has informed on social media that a decision has been taken to hold a reserve day for the India-Pakistan match only after the agreement of all the 4 teams.
India and Pakistan are the only beneficiaries
As there is a reserve day for the match between India and Pakistan, any team can get 2 points if they win the match. Each team has to play 3 matches in Super-4. Pakistan now has 2 points. If Babar Azam’s team succeeds in defeating India, the final will be almost decided. If the Indian team wins, their path to the finals will also become easier. It is understandable if the Indian team defeats Pakistan. If the matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are not held due to rain, India’s total will be 4 points. At the same time, Sri Lanka will have only 3 points if all three matches are cancelled. In such a situation, the team will be behind the Indian team in terms of points without losing a single match in the Super-4. On the other hand, Bangladesh will be eliminated. Because if the match is canceled then the team can reach maximum only 2 points.
Total silence on the third contention
In the Group-B match, Afghanistan lost to Sri Lanka by 2 runs. After the match, Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott said that the match officials had not given him full information about the run rate. After this, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has asked the ACC to complain about this. But till now nothing has been said about this from PCB to ACC.
After the chaos in the Asia Cup, now there is controversy, 2 teams out of the final due to the new rule! Pakistan only benefits
A joint winner can be found for the first time
This is the 16th season of Asia Cup. There has never been a joint winner in the history of the tournament so far. But this may happen for the first time due to rain in Colombo. India has captured this title the most 7 times. Sri Lanka has managed to win the Asia Cup 6 times and Pakistan team has won it 2 times. For the 14th time, the tournament is being played based on the ODI format. He has also played twice in the T20 format. However, this time there is a reserve-day provision for the final.
