Covid-19 New Variant: Corona virus is still a concern for the world. After the Omicron variant of Corona, now the new variant has worried the scientists. Like the Omicron, it is a BA.2.86 variant. Due to which the cases of Kovid are increasing in America, Britain. Researchers around the world are trying to figure out its effect and many of them are finding similarities with the Omicron variant.
The spike protein of the BA.2.86 variant has several changes. This is the main area of the virus that attacks the human immune system. Nature Journal Accordingly, many scientists believe that a large-scale vaccine roll-out will not spread as quickly as an Omicron wave.
Why are scientists concerned about BA.2.86?
The scientists discovered that the lineage of the BA.2.86 variant is linked to the omicron subvariant BA.2. There was a large spike mutation in patients fighting Covid-19, and so on Found in BA.2.86. Ashish Jha, a researcher at Brown University, USA, said that BA.2.86 is quite different from the frequently mutated strains of the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19) virus, so it needs more attention. Virologist Jesse Bloom says that people who have developed antibodies through a booster vaccine or a previous Covid infection may still be susceptible to a new infection, meaning that the vaccine used here is proving ineffective.
New cases of covid infection have come up.
As of August 21, Israel, the United Kingdom, Denmark and the United States have reported 6 cases of Covid infection. Scientists fear that all these cases are not connected – meaning that the patients were infected without traveling between these countries, suggesting that there is already a high level of community transmission in the affected countries.
Should you be worried about this new variant?
Bloom said that this new variant may be gone before people around the world are aware of its existence. “I don’t think anyone needs to worry about it,” said the virologist. I believe that the chances of BA.2.86 causing the next wave are ‘extremely low’, while some scientists are still concerned about this type.
