New Delhi: National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has achieved another milestone by successfully completing 100 km of viaduct and 250 km of pier work in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor project. A viaduct is a long bridge-like structure, supported by a series of arches or spans between tall towers, that carries an elevated road or railway line.

According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, 251.40 km of pillars have been installed till 21 November 2023. The elevated super structure has been completed up to 103.24 km. The work of installing sound barrier on the closed bridge has been started. Includes bridges over 6 rivers. Laying of the first reinforced concrete (RC) track bed for the MAHSR corridor track system used in the Japanese Shinkansen has also begun in Surat. It is said that J-Slab ballastless track system is being used for the first time in India.

Also, the demolition work of the first hill tunnel of 350 meters has been completed in Valsad district of Gujarat and the first steel bridge of 70 meters length has been constructed in Surat district of Gujarat. It said this is the first of the 28 steel bridges that will be part of the MAHSR corridor. NHSRCL achieved its first significant milestone by successfully constructing the impressive 70 meter long first steel bridge on National Highway 53 at Surat in October this year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his then Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe launched the project on September 14, 2017 in Ahmedabad. National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) was established on 12 February 2016 under the Companies Act, 2013 for the purpose of financing, constructing, maintaining and operating high-speed rail corridors in India.
