The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)’s latest report on the ‘Bharatmala Project’ was presented at the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee meeting chaired by Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary on Tuesday. Sources gave this information. The audit report on the implementation of the Bharatmala Highway Phase-1 project sparked a political controversy with opposition parties alleging corruption in the allocation process.
However, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that the Comptroller and Auditor General’s conclusion that the cost is too high is wrong. This happened because there was no real cost involved.
Sources said that a presentation was made on the CAG report in the PAC meeting on Tuesday. The report was tabled in Parliament on August 10.
