Chinese internet giant Biadu’s AI-laced language model ERNIE bot has been fully opened to the general public since Thursday. In addition, other tech giants including Tencent, Huawei and iFlytek have also reportedly received approval to provide access to the general public. In addition to the ERNIE bot, the company is set to launch a suite of new AI-native apps that will allow users to fully experience the four core capabilities of generative AI – understanding, generation, logic and memory.

The report shows that the ERNIE bot is based on Baidu’s ERNIE foundation model, which has consistently ranked first in more than 10 authoritative evaluations, both domestically and internationally. It was first launched in mid-March. ERNIE bot is one of the first western chat GPT competitors. Some Chinese tech companies like Alibaba, ByteDance and iFlytech have also released their own AI models. According to a report by local news site bjnews.com, a total of 11 AI-generated language models have been approved in China and will be available to the general public.
