CISF has arrested a passenger with foreign currency worth Rs 2.5 crore from IGI airport

New Delhi:

Vigilant personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force seized foreign currency worth Rs 2.5 crore from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday. During the security check, the CISF personnel came across suspicious pictures, after which such a large amount of foreign currency was recovered from a passenger. The passenger has been identified as Mirzalol Jurayev from Uzbekistan. The passenger is handed over to customs with foreign currency.

The CISF issued a statement saying that suspicious images of currency notes hidden in a bag were found at Terminal-3 of IGI Airport. After this the bag was sent for investigation and the passenger was detained. An examination of the bag revealed that it contained a pack of new bed sheets. After this, when the bag was opened, a large amount of US dollars came out of it.

He said that USD 3,07,500 was found hidden inside a bed sheet wrapped in a plastic cover. Their price in Indian currency is Rs 2.52 crore. The passenger was traveling from Delhi to Dubai via Emirates Airlines.

A word of caution from the Sub Inspector
According to CISF, since currency and cloth are made of biological material, it is very difficult to differentiate between the two during X-BIS screening. However, due to the vigilance of CISF Sub Inspector Ashish Singh, the foreign currency was found.
