New York: In late summer, a new wave of coronavirus infections has affected schools, workplaces and local government. Experts are warning people to be prepared for more COVID-19 outbreaks this fall and winter. Hospitalizations rose 24% in the two-week period ending August 12, according to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to a New York Times report, wastewater monitoring shows a recent spike in Covid infections in the west and northeast of the US. Outbreaks have occurred in preschools, summer camps and offices across the US in recent weeks. Public health officials said the recent spike in Covid hospitalizations is still relatively small and most sick people are experiencing mild symptoms compared to a cold or flu.

The report also said that most Americans have shown little desire to return to the days of frequent testing, mask wearing and isolation. Michael T., director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. “We’re almost at the best time since the pandemic started,” Osterholm said. “But we’re stuck in the very uneasy territory of trying to clear the fog of pandemic warfare and try to understand what the sunrise looks like in a normal post-Covid world,” he said.

The virus still disrupts work, school and politics
More than a dozen people have been infected with Covid in Nashville this month, including a city council member, city employees and at least one reporter. As students have returned to school in recent days, most administrators have indicated they don’t plan to return to stricter rules involving masks and tests. Officials usually ask parents to keep their children home if they are sick.
