Cricket is a craze across the world, including India, so the International Olympic Committee is gearing up to capitalize on it. There has been talk for some time now that cricket may be included in the 2028 Olympics. If this happens, cricket will be included in the Olympics for the first time since 1900. Recently a report has surfaced which says that the International Olympic Committee is preparing to include 9 new sports in the Olympics 2028, one of which is cricket.
The Indian Express reports that the decision will be taken soon after the crucial World Cup clash between India and Pakistan on October 15-16, when more than 100 IOC members will meet in Mumbai to discuss the inclusion of new sports in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Will vote
The possibility will only become clear this week as the IOC’s all-powerful Executive Board is scheduled to meet in Lausanne, Switzerland on September 8. The board, which also includes IOC president Thomas Bach, will decide on the sports program for the Los Angeles Olympics during this period. This will then be confirmed during the IOC session in Mumbai.
In addition to cricket, the list of other Olympic sports includes flag football, karate, kickboxing, baseball-softball, lacrosse, breakdancing, squash and motorsports.
However, Michael Payne, the IOC’s former director of marketing and broadcasting rights, who is familiar with its inner workings after working there for nearly two decades, believes cricket has a better chance of getting the nod.
