If the information submitted to the Provident Fund Organization i.e. EPFO ​​does not match with the information filled in the form while making the claim then the claim is often rejected. Now provident fund organization members can correct or update their 11 details. According to the EPFO ​​circular, it has also been observed that due to non-standardization of this process, fraud has also been committed by identifying members in some cases. Whether the change is minor or major, documentary evidence will be required. For minor changes, at least two documents from the proposed list have to be submitted. In case of major changes, three documents will be required.

It will be possible to amend these details: Information that can be updated includes name, gender, date of birth, father’s name, relationship, marital status, date of joining, reason for leaving, date of leaving, nationality and Aadhaar number. As per the circular, an EPF member can normally be allowed to correct or update five of the 11 parameters, even if multiple applications are submitted. According to the information, out of the 11 details, only the marital status information can be changed twice. Rest of the details can be changed only once.

Method of applying for modification:The EPF account holder has to submit an application to correct the profile details from the member service portal. Necessary documents will also be uploaded on the portal and kept on the server for future. The special thing is that if the member makes any change, he will have to get the verification done by the employer. The EPF account holder’s request will also appear on the employer’s login. Further, an automatic email will be sent to the registered email id of the employer. EPF members can only modify the data generated by the current employer. There will be no amendment rights for member accounts of previous organizations.

These documents will be required

EPFO has announced the list of documents which will be uploaded along with the application form. For example, to correct name and gender, Aadhaar has to be submitted compulsorily. For minor changes, one more document like Passport, PAN Card, Voter Card etc. has to be uploaded along with Aadhaar. If the EPF member has died, the death certificate has to be submitted by the legal heirs for name correction. For major corrections, two more documents have to be submitted along with Aadhaar. Similarly, to correct date of birth in EPF account, EPF member has to submit birth certificate, passport and Aadhaar.

How to Apply

  • Login to the Member Services Portal with your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password
  • After logging in, click on the ‘Joint Declaration’ tab. An OTP will be sent to the mobile
  • -On entering the OTP, a joint declaration form will appear on the screen
  • Submit the required details along with the prescribed list of documents
  • -Employer also has to verify the application after the account holder submits it.

The employer will check the information from his records. If it matches, the joint declaration will be forwarded to the EFPO office to update the application. If any information is missing or deficient, the application will be sent back to the EPF member. This information will appear in the member’s account.
