The number of foreign tourists visiting India from January to June this year is 106 percent higher than last year. Official sources gave this information on Tuesday. According to data shared by sources, foreign exchange has also increased during this period in 2023 as compared to January to June 2022. India is making continuous efforts to increase the number of domestic and international tourists after the Kovid-19 pandemic.
“Foreign tourist arrivals in India from January to June this year stood at 43.80 lakh, which is 106 per cent more than the number of tourists during the same period in 2022 (21.24 lakh),” a source said.
Sources said that as far as domestic tourism is concerned, the figure was 67.7 crore in 2021 and has increased to 173.1 crore in 2022. Sharing the statistics of the increase in the number of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, the source said that in 2022 the figure was more than 1.8 crore while in 2023 the figure has reached 1.09 crore from January to June.
He said that the construction of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi has boosted tourism there.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently said in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program that the recent surge in tourist numbers in Varanasi shows a “cultural renaissance”.
Sunil Verma, Chief Executive Officer of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust, recently said that around 10 crore devotees have visited the temple since the opening of the corridor. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated this corridor on 13 December 2021.
