After the super-duper success of ‘Gadar 2’ at the box office, many things are coming up. A few days ago a similar story surfaced that Govinda was offered ‘Gadar- Ek Prem Katha’ first, but he refused, so the film went to Sean Deol. However, the film’s director Anil Sharma rubbished the rumours, saying that Sunny Deol was the first and only choice for Gadar. He said that I had discussed the story of the film with Govinda once, so it is possible that this may have caused the publicity.

‘Govinda was misunderstood’

In a conversation with Bollywood Hungama, when Anil Sharma was asked if Govinda was his first choice for Ghadar, he said, “I did a film called ‘Maharaja’ with Govinda. One day I told him the story of Ghadar. He told me, “I Can’t do this film. They thought I wanted to cast him.”

There are many Hindu-Muslims: Govinda

Anil Sharma said that after hearing the script of the film, Govinda showed no interest in Ghadar because of the Hindu-Muslim issue. He said, “Before narrating the story, I told him that I had narrated the story to Sunny Deol and was doing this film with him. Then Govinda asked me what the story was, so I told him the story of Ghadar. And then he said no-no. Started saying, I can’t do this film because it has a lot of Hindu-Muslim conflict.

But Govinda was not a bad choice

The director of Ghadar said that it was all talk and nothing happened but maybe this misconception remained in his mind that I was offering him Ghadar. With this, Anil Sharma said that Govinda is not a bad choice. He had superstar status at that time, but in my mind I wanted a Punjabi hero and it could only be Sunny Deol.

460 crore business in 18 days

‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ was also a hit film of its time. Ghadar 2 is doing well at the box office and has become the biggest hit after Pathan. The film has collected Rs 460.55 crore at the box office in just 18 days of its release, while Anil Sharma has claimed in an interview that the film cost only Rs 60 crore to make.
