Host team in trouble, 4 big players could be out of Asia Cup

Colombo. Before the Asia Cup tournament, when Sri Lanka suddenly got to host the tournament, the whole country was delighted. Now after this good news, the team got to hear bad news. Sri Lanka, who are co-hosting the Asia Cup with Pakistan, may have four players out of the tournament. It is being said that two players are injured while two players have been found infected with Corona.

India suffered a shock on Friday when four of its cricketers were in doubt for the upcoming Asia Cup due to injuries and testing positive for Covid-19. Fast bowler Dushmanta Chamira and leg-spinner Vanindu Hasaranga are injured while Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando have tested positive for Covid-19.

A shoulder injury sustained during the recent Lanka Premier League (LPL) may rule Chamira out of the Asia Cup. According to ESPNcricinfo, Hasaranga suffered a minor thigh injury before the LPL final, which ruled him out of his side’s first two matches in the Asia Cup.

Sri Lanka will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh on August 31 at Pallekele. Sri Lanka’s woes were compounded when batsmen Perera and Fernando tested positive for Covid-19. Both have been kept under observation and their inclusion in the squad will depend on their recovery process.

The Sri Lankan team management said that both contracted Kovid-19 during the final stages of LPL 2023. He must test negative to be included in the squad for the Asia Cup.
