India’s powerful batsman has proved himself well in the T20 format. He currently holds the top spot in the ICC T20 batsman rankings. Known as ‘Mr 360’, Surya has the ability to play shots in every corner of the ground. However, Surya has so far failed to show as much success in the ODI format as he has in T20s. He has scored just 511 runs in 26 ODI matches at an average of 24.33. During this time he scored two half-centuries. Former South African batsman AB de Villiers has revealed how Surya’s fortunes can be unlocked in ODIs.
De Villiers has given good advice to Suryakumar. The former cricketer believes that if Surya changes his mindset even a little, he can succeed in ODIs as well. Let us tell you that Suryakumar himself admitted that his ODI record is not good. Surya is currently part of the Indian team in Asia Cup 2023. He has yet to get a chance to play a single match in the tournament. Surya has been selected in India’s squad for ODI World Cup 2023.
De Villiers said on his YouTube channel AB de Villiers 360, “I’m a big fan of Suryakumar. He plays the same way I used to play. But he hasn’t batted like that in ODIs yet. He said, “It’s a little bit of a mindset change that he’s going to have to make and he has the ability to do that.”
De Villiers said, “It’s a relief to see Suryakumar in the World Cup squad. I am very happy. I hope he gets that chance in this World Cup.” He said, “Looking at the balance of the Indian team, he might not start but the World Cup is a long tournament. Let’s see what happens next.
