The Indian men’s blind cricket team suffered an 8-wicket defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the final of the IBSA World Games 2023 on Saturday night. With this defeat, Team India had to settle for the silver medal, while Pakistan bagged the gold medal. Cricket was added to the International Blind Sports Federation World Games for the first time this year and the Indian men’s and women’s teams made it to the finals. The women’s team won the gold medal by defeating Australia in the title match.
In this match of 20-20 overs, the Indian team batted first and gave a target of 185 runs against Pakistan. DR Tompaki got India off to a flying start with a 50-run partnership in the first six overs with VR Duna. Duna scored 20 off 18 balls while Tompaki scored 76 off 51 balls with 11 fours. S Ramesh also made an important contribution by playing an unbeaten innings of 48 runs off 29 balls.
Chasing a target of 185 runs, the Pakistan team registered a victory in the 15th over with a brilliant batting display. Team India’s performance in bowling was very disappointing and they spent 42 runs as extras, which made it easy for Pakistan to register a win.
M for Pakistan. Ullah and N. Ali got off to a great start and scored 50 off the first 27 balls. After this, M Salman’s 25-ball 48 and B Munjeer’s 12-ball 41 helped the Man in Green win. Pakistan remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
The IBSA World Games or World Blind Games is an international event organized every four years by the International Blind Sports Federation. These events enable blind and partially sighted athletes to compete in a range of sports. It was first organized in 1998 in Madrid, Spain.
