A sharp reaction to the wording used in the invitation came from Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who asked if the ruling party would change the country’s name to ‘BJP’ if the opposition alliance decided to call itself ‘Bharat’.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Kejriwal said, “I have no official information that this (name change) is happening. Just because many opposition parties have formed an alliance and called it India, will the Center change India’s name? The country is 140 crores. Belongs to the people, not to any one party. If the name of coalition is changed to India, will they change the name of India to BJP?
Kejriwal said the BJP was so upset with the opposition alliance that it tried to divert attention from it with its ‘one nation, one election’ proposal when it was first announced.
Kejriwal’s party ally and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha also targeted the BJP saying that the country does not belong to any one political party.
The BJP’s recent move to change ‘President of India’ to ‘President of India’ on official G-20 summit invitations has raised eyebrows and fueled public debate. How can BJP destroy ‘India’? The country belongs to a political party. It belongs to 135 crore Indians. Our national identity is not BJP’s personal property that it can change as per its wish. India will join, win. India.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the whole world knows the country as India and wondered if Rabindranath Tagore would be renamed in future.
He said, “I heard that they are changing the name of India. In the invitation of the President’s name, India is written. What is new in this? We say India in English and India in Hindi. Still we say India. It is said, but the world calls this country. known as India. What suddenly happened that the name of the country will change? The name of the poet Thakur (Rabindranath Tagore) will also change?
