India’s top order was badly disrupted against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023. India lost the first four wickets for just 66. Young opening batsman Shubman Gill was seen struggling a lot against the Pakistani bowlers. He scored just 10 runs from 32 balls at a strike rate of 31.25. During this he hit fours. Gill returned to the pavilion for the third wicket. Pace merchant Haris Rauf made him his victim in the 15th over. He was bowled on the first ball of the over.
Please note that Gill has been included in the shame list after batting at a slow pace. This is a list of Indian openers with the lowest strike rate in an ODI innings since 2000. Gill is joint fourth and an odd coincidence. In fact, apart from Gill, India’s former explosive opener Virender Sehwag also batted at a strike rate of 31.25 in the ODI match against Pakistan. Sehwag played this match in 2010 and scored 10 runs in 32 balls. Topping the list is Sourav Ganguly, who had a strike rate of 25.00 against Australia in 2001. Ganguly scored 9 runs in 36 balls in the match.
