New Delhi. Team India for Asia Cup 2023 has finally been announced. The BCCI selectors announced the 17-member squad for the tournament after a meeting held in Delhi. Apart from this, Sanju Samson has been retained as backup. The team will enter the Asia Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer got a place in the team. Both players are still recovering from injuries. Tilak Verma has managed to make it into the ODI squad for the first time. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal did not get a place in the squad. Hardik Pandya is the vice-captain as before. Talking about the Asia Cup held last year, the Indian team could not make it to the finals. The team was eliminated from the group round. In such a situation, the team will want to improve its performance this time.
Apart from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Tilak Verma, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav have been named in the squad for the Asia Cup. Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul have been included as wicketkeepers. Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Akshar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja have managed to make a place in the team as all-rounders. Kuldeep Yadav is included as a spinner. As fast bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, famous Krishna and Mohammad Siraj have been selected in the squad for the Asia Cup. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said about the World Cup team that the list is to be given on September 5. So we still have time.
India and Pakistan are in the same group
Talking about the Asia Cup, a total of 6 teams are participating in it. India, Pakistan and Nepal are in one group while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in the other group. Team India will play their first match against Pakistan on September 2. There is a match against Nepal on September 4. The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the Super 4. 4 matches of the tournament are to be held in Pakistan and 9 matches including the final are to be held in Sri Lanka. PCB is the organizer of the tournament, but BCCI has refused to send the team to Pakistan. For this reason, the tournament matches are being held in two countries.
First match between Pakistan and Nepal
The first match of the tournament is scheduled to be played between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan on August 30. The Super-4 matches will start from September 6. Here each team has to play 3 matches. The final will be played between the top-2 teams on September 17 at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The Sri Lankan team is the defending champion of the tournament. India has won the Asia Cup title the most 7 times while Sri Lanka has won 6 times. Pakistan team has managed to win only 2 titles so far.
