Indian men’s team creates history in 4x400m, breaks Asian record and makes World Championship final

The Indian men’s team produced a historic performance to qualify for the final of the 4x400m relay race event at the World Championships on Saturday. Indian men’s team has made it to the finals of this event for the first time. The Indian men’s team broke the national record as well as the Asian record by clocking 2:59.05 seconds in the 4x400m relay race. The Indian quartet of Muhammad Anas Yahia, Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Ajmal Variathodi and Rajesh Ramesh entered the final after finishing second behind the American team. The final match of this event will be held on Sunday.

Let us tell you that India’s previous national record in this event was 3:00.25 seconds which was set by this pair during Tokyo Olympics 2020. However, she missed out on entering the finals that time. On the other hand, talking about the Asian record, last year in Oregon, the Japanese team won this record with 2:59.51 seconds.

Coming into the race, Mohammad Anas Yahia had a slow start to the relay for India and after the first leg, India was ranked sixth. However, in the second leg, Amoj Jacob’s brilliant comeback took India to second place. After this Muhammad Ajmal Variathodi and Rajesh Ramesh maintained their pace in the last two stages and finished the race.

Neeraj Chopra’s clash with Pakistan’s Nadeem in the final will look to turn silver into gold.

India was only one second behind America in this heat. The United States finished first in Heat 1 with a time of 2:58.47 seconds, while Great Britain took the final qualifying spot in Heat 1 with a time of 2:59.42 seconds.
