India won the Men’s Hockey Fives Asia Cup 2023 title in Salalah, Oman on Saturday. India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan 2-0 in a penalty shootout in the final. Pakistan led 3-2 at half-time but the Indian team made a strong comeback to level the score at 4-4 at full-time. Maninder Singh and Gurjot Singh scored goals for India in the shootout. Along with this, the goalkeeper Suraj Karkera did not allow Pakistan’s Arshad Liaquat and Mohammad Murtaza to score. Let us tell you that with this win, India has entered the FIH Men’s Hockey 5 World Cup 2024.
Mohammad Raheel (19th and 26th), Jugraj Singh (7th) and Maninder Singh (10th) scored for India in regulation time. While Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh scored goals in the shootout. For Pakistan, Abdul Rehman (5th), captain Abdul Rana (13th), Zikaria Hayat (14th) and Arshad Liaquat (19th) scored goals in regulation time. Earlier on Saturday, India defeated Malaysia 10-4 in the semi-final and entered the final.
Pakistan qualified for the final after defeating Oman 7-3 in the first semi-final. India lost to Pakistan 4-5 in the elite pool stage match of the tournament.
