Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan on Wednesday expressed disappointment over the absence of experienced players like Liton Das but said they have enough players to fill the void at the Asia Cup 2023. Bangladesh will take on six-time and defending champions Sri Lanka here on Thursday. But the team will be without the experienced Das, Tamim Iqbal and Ibadat Hussain as all have been ruled out due to various reasons. Das has not recovered from viral fever while Iqbal and Hussain are injured.
Shakib said, “Definitely, they will miss (the absence of experienced players). If you talk about Litten, he has been a part of the team for the last four-five years and has been doing well for Bangladesh as well. He said in the pre-match press conference, “But it means that Shakib hoped that the young players would like it. Tauhit Hriday will do well in the 2020 Asia Cup under Bangladesh’s under-19 World Cup winning team. Be a part of it.
Shakib said, “As far as Tauhit is concerned, he has been playing really well for us this year. He has done very well for us in the LPL (Lanka Premier League) recently and this will boost his confidence for the Asia Cup. Shakib said that Bangladesh will be eyeing a good performance in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 but his focus is now. Right now the focus is on playing well in the Asia Cup. “Like any other team, we have our eyes on the World Cup,” he said. Asia Cup is a big tournament and we are taking it very seriously. A good performance here will boost our confidence ahead of the World Cup.
