After the success of Chandrayaan 3, now people’s eyes are on other planets.
Elon Musk’s Mars Grand Plan has shocked everyone.
Musk has hinted at taking one million people to Mars by 2050.
New Delhi: The success of Chandrayaan-3 has sparked renewed interest in space exploration and what lies beyond Earth. Along with studying the Moon and Sun, the main planet of interest to humans is our neighbor Mars. The question is also whether life is possible on this planet. In order to ensure humanity’s survival amidst the growing climate crisis on Earth, life is now being explored on this planet as well.
According to Hindustan Times report, NASA scientist Dr. Michel Thaler says that it is not possible to send humans to Mars with current technology. While SpaceX founder and billionaire Elon Musk is optimistic about his desire to take one million people to Mars by 2050. As indicated in a recent interview.
What are the challenges?
But the actual mission requires sophisticated technology to succeed. However, NASA said on its website, ‘We haven’t even thought about it yet.’ A major challenge in reaching Mars is its distance. Which equates to a journey of 34 million miles. This distance poses a major challenge to the survival of the crew and their safe return. Currently, NASA’s rover is collecting carbon dioxide from the planet’s thin atmosphere and converting it into oxygen. So astronauts can use it, but there are other threats to survival.
Very dangerous radiation is present
‘Even if we cover the distance while ensuring a safe, functional life support system for astronauts for such a long time,’ said NASA. But the radiation will kill us on reaching Mars. Current technology would make it difficult to protect astronauts going to Mars. Because the radiation from solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) will kill humans before they get there.
According to NASA, the surface of Mars is extremely hostile. Unlike Earth, Mars has a very thin atmosphere and no magnetic field to deflect energetic particles, so we’ll need technology to shield astronauts from two sources of radiation. The space agency further stated, ‘Some of these energetic particles can break apart atoms present in the objects they collide with, such as astronauts, metal walls of spacecraft, habitats… etc.’
The spacecraft sent to the Red Planet has information about its weather, surface conditions and landing techniques. NASA said that exploration on Mars and travel to the moon are interconnected. The Moon provides an opportunity to test new tools and equipment that could be used on Mars, including human habitation, life support systems and technologies.
