According to the Dargah of Hazrat Imam Hussain in Iraq, around 25 million people from all over the world reached Karbala on Wednesday this year and mourned at the shrine of Imam Hussain. In this pilgrimage, the devotees first reach Najaf in Iraq and from there they cover a distance of about 80 kilometers on foot to reach the shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala.

There is no distribution of goods. Every house along this 85-110 km route is open day and night for devotees. However, the Islamic Republic of Iran also opens its coffers to host the faithful. More than one lakh devotees also arrived from India
This year, more than one lakh devotees from India also reached Iraq during the ‘Arabin’ pilgrimage. During the religious pilgrimage from Najaf to Karbala, devotees can be seen carrying the Indian tricolor at many places. Indians have also set up their own tents at various places for the convenience of tourists and food and drink arrangements, in which Indian food and accommodation are well arranged.

When the devotees reach the shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala after traveling some 80 kilometers, their eyes fill with tears. It is said that Imam Hussain had only 72 soldiers with him and bravely faced the tyrant Yazid’s 1 lakh army. Hazrat Imam Hussain along with his brother Hazrat Abbas and his 6 months old son were martyred in this battle. It is also said that even water was not given to Imam Hussain’s family and soldiers. In memory of Imam Hussain every year in Muharram, Mourning begins all over the world and after 40 days this mourning ends at ‘Arabeen’.
Imam Hussain was also the grandson of the Messenger of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad.
