Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, the Bangladesh team has received a major setback. The team’s veteran opener Liton Das has been ruled out of the tournament. He fell ill before leaving for Sri Lanka for their first match of the tournament, from which he is yet to recover. In such a situation Bangladesh Cricket Board had to announce his position. Bangladesh’s first match in Asia Cup 2023 is against Sri Lanka tomorrow i.e. on 31 August.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board i.e. BCB has informed that Liton Das has been ruled out of the Asia Cup due to non-recovery from viral fever. He did not go to Sri Lanka for Bangladesh’s opening match at Pallekele. The BCB national selection panel has named 30-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy as his replacement, who is set to join the team in Sri Lanka today.

Bijoy has represented Bangladesh in 44 ODIs and has scored 1254 runs including three centuries. He played his last ODI in the home series against India in December last year. Chief selector Minhajul Abedin said, “He (Anamul) is doing well in domestic cricket and we had an eye on him in the Bangladesh Tigers schedule. He was always in our scheme of things.
