This year’s list of highest grossing Indian films includes blockbusters like Pathan, Warisu, Ponyyin Selvan 2, as well as two films currently playing in theaters, Gadar 2 and Jailor. However, the budget of all these blockbuster films was also very high. It means that despite such a huge collection, their profit was not the highest for the year. This advantage goes to a film made on a budget of just Rs 15 crore, which did not have a big star.

The highest grossing Indian film at the box office in 2023 is ‘The Kerala Story’. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the film featured Adah Sharma in the lead role. It is being said that the budget of this film was only 15 crore rupees but this film earned 303 crore rupees worldwide. Its worldwide gross collection is also Rs. 250 crores, based on which it can be said that the film made more than 1500% profit compared to the cost. This is the highest for any Indian film in recent times.
How did ‘The Kerala Story’ beat Pathan, Gadar 2 and Jailer?
Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Pathan’ became the highest grossing film of 2023 in eight months of the year. He made a total of Rs. 850 crore with a worldwide collection of Rs. Earned 1050 crores. It means that Rs. Pathan’s profit was around 240% which was a huge figure due to a budget of 250 crores. But it was nowhere near the figure of the Kerala story. Similarly, Rajinikanth’s Jailer Rs. 200 crore budget (115% profit still counting) around Rs. 430 crores while Sunny Deol’s Ghadar is Rs. 80 crore (400% profit) in a budget of around Rs. 400 crores earned. The highest grossing Indian film of all time is the Zaira Wasim-starrer Secret Superstar which also featured Aamir Khan in a cameo. The film had a budget of Rs 15 crore and grossed Rs 900 crore worldwide. In it Rs. 700 crore net earnings are also included. Due to which the film got a huge profit of 4500%. Two more films released last year also earned big despite small budgets. Their names are Kashmir Files and Kantara.
