From next year, there will be many changes in MBBS studies in all medical colleges of the country including Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur. MBBS students taking admission in MBBS from 2024-29 batch will face a change in studies. NMC (National Medical Council) has released new guidelines regarding the study of MBBS. Under this, 21 subjects will be taught instead of 24 in MBBS. Subjects of TB and Chest, PMR and Emergency Medicine have been abolished under this.
According to the new guidelines of NMC, three subjects (Emergency Medicine, TB and Chest and PMR) which have been abolished will be merged with other subjects. PMR will be merged into the discipline of Orthopaedics in General Medicine like Emergency Medicine and TB and Chest. Faculty of these three subjects will not be required during inspection. Under the changed rule, the Faculty of Medicine will now teach TB and Chest and Emergency Medicine, while the Faculty of Orthopedics will teach PMR.
Must pass MBBS in maximum 10 years
Till now there was no time limit for passing MBBS first year, so the time limit has been fixed in the new guidelines of NMC. According to the new guidelines, MBBS first year has to be passed in a maximum of 4 years, whereas earlier there was no stipulation of years to pass it. MBBS student has to complete MBBS course in maximum 10 years. Otherwise NMC will let his dream of becoming a doctor remain a dream.
Now words like non clinical subject will be a thing of the past
Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Bhagalpur Dr. Umashankar Singh says that till now the terms non-clinical, pre-clinical and para-medical were used, but as per the new guidelines of NMC, now only clinical subjects will be used. . Yes, it has phase separation. Like Phase-1, Phase-2 and Phase-3 (one) and Phase-3 (2). Phase-I, earlier known as pre-clinical subjects, will have subjects like Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. Phase-II will cover pathology, microbiology and pharmacology subjects. Similarly, under Phase-3(1) there will be subjects of Eye, ENT, PSM, FMT followed by Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics and Pediatrics under Phase-3(2).
Maximum 150 seats
As per the new rule, new medical colleges will not have more than 150 MBBS seats starting from the academic session 2024-25. The Medical Education Regulator has made it mandatory for new colleges to follow a ratio of 100 MBBS seats per million population in states and Union Territories.
