After the long absence of Jasprit Bumrah, India’s veteran fast bowler Mohammad Shami has said that his return has made the Indian bowling stronger. We didn’t have Jassi (Bumrah) for a long time, so we felt the loss of a good player like him,” Shami said in a Star Sports programme.
“Sometimes you feel like, ‘I wish this player was there’ to set up your combination,” Mohammed Shami said. So with Jassi, our bowling has become much stronger, especially in the limited overs format. He is looking fit and playing well, hopefully we will do well in the Asia Cup.
Notably, Bumrah was sidelined for nearly 11 months due to a stress fracture in his back and returned to the squad for the Ireland T20 tour this month. Shami is confident that Bumrah, Siraj and their trio will play an important role for India in the Asia Cup and the subsequent World Cup.
Shami said, “There is always good preparation for big matches as we have practiced in the training camp. I don’t think we need to overanalyze the situation, we have the skill and the bowling lineup, so we don’t need to think too much. One thing I have to say is that focus is very important whenever an ODI match comes. So we have to focus and make proper plans.
He said, “Whenever I have a new ball or the team needs me at any stage during the match, I am always available. I have no qualms about bowling with the new ball or the old ball. All three of us (Bumrah, Shami and Siraj) are bowling very well, so it depends on the management who will play. There is only one goal, to go on the field and give 100 percent. If we give our 100 per cent, the result will go in our favour.”
