The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in many states including Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh. According to the IMD, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 19 and 20. At the same time, heavy rain is likely during the next 24 hours over the Western Himalayan region and surrounding plains during the next 3-4 days. While light rain activity is likely to continue over the southern parts of Peninsular India and Gujarat during the next 4-5 days.

‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rains in 10 districts of Himachal Pradesh on August 21-22
The Local Meteorological Center of Himachal Pradesh issued a ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rain, storm and lightning at various places in 10 districts of the state on Friday, August 21 and 22. In a release, the Met office said that light to moderate rain is likely at some places in the lower and middle hills during the next 48 hours. Rain activity is expected to intensify in the state from August 21 and many parts will receive rain till August 24.
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain at isolated places in non-tribal districts of the state from August 21 to 23, while thundershowers may occur at some places. This may disrupt traffic and other essential services

Heavy rain forecast during 21-26 August in sub-Himalayan districts of Bengal
The Meteorological Department in its forecast on Friday said that sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rains between August 21 and 26. The department also said that light rain is likely in the southern districts of the state during this period. The Meteorological Office said that Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurdwar districts are likely to experience heavy rain on August 21 and 22. But between August 23 and 26, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in these five districts.
IMD has declared yellow alert for 18 districts
Due to the formation of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, there has been heavy rain in Odisha in the last 24 hours, an official said on Friday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has on Friday issued a yellow alert for light to heavy rain and strong winds, lightning in 18 districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city. At least six places received heavy rainfall, the local meteorological office said. At 8.30 am on Friday, Telkoi in Keonjhar district received 182.6 mm of rain, Banki in Cuttack district 182 mm, Pipli in Puri district 122 mm, Champua in Keonjhar district 120.6 and Devgaon in Bolangir district 107 mm. Apart from this, Khurda received 88 mm, Hirakud 87.8, Nabarangpur 81, Keonjhar 70.6, Puri 69.6, Bhubaneswar 63.8 and Titlagarh 60.8 mm.
