New Delhi:
There are millions of Indians in America who are waiting to get green card. In such a situation, these days a study has revealed that more than four lakh Indians will die while waiting to get a green card in the USA. It is also because the number of people applying for green cards is so high that the backlog with the administration has increased. It is said that more than 11 lakh applications are still pending.

63% of the pending applications are from India
Let us tell you that Green Card or Permanent Resident Card is a document issued to American immigrants to grant them permanent residence in the country. The US-based think tank Cato Institute has said in a report that Indians account for 63% of the total 1.8 million employment-based green card applications pending in the country. This backlog adds up to 83 lakh pending applications from the Family Sponsored System system.
It will take 134 years to clear the backlock
According to the report, for new applicants from India, it will take more than 134 years to clear the backlog, making it a “life sentence”. “About 424,000 employment-based applicants will die waiting, and more than 90 percent of them will be Indian. Given that currently half of all new employer-sponsored applicants are Indian, about half of all new sponsored immigrants will die before receiving a green card. .
While the US employs large numbers of Indians and Chinese for STEM roles, only seven percent of employment-based green cards are awarded annually to individuals from either country. This puts Indians at a significant disadvantage given the workforce backlog of more than half of US occupations with advanced degrees, including highly skilled STEM professionals and US-educated graduates.
